wear it with pride

T-Shirt 16/85 (Public Office) by Erik Gorton

We expect our politicians and those in the military to both represent us and ensure our safety. It therefore seems obvious that their partners and families should be provided for in return, yet until the recent amendments, same-sex relationships were not afforded these entitlements and allowances. Above all I wanted the design to impart a sense of dignity, something that a politician or military person could feel comfortable wearing. The one and six are linked, representing the intimacy and connection between public office workers and their partners. The kangaroo and emu allude to the commonwealth coat of arms and are seemingly tending to the number six - the commonwealth both caring for the partners of public officers as well as 'setting things right'.
