wear it with pride

T-Shirt 14/85 (Public Office) by Kim Daniel

My design reflects the recognition of same-sex couples. Politicians and those in the military protect our country and represent our nation. However, it was only recently that these law reforms provided their families with the benefits and treatment that heterosexual couples had been receiving. I have implemented my imagery to convey this message. The red four is holding the red one close, illustrating a close relationship between two of the same gender. The plane on which this number is located is a metonym for the Defence Force in general, not just the Air Force. Also, the flying plane symbolises the acknowledgement of the couple and the freedom from the old laws. This also represents the journey that the couple will take through the rainbow together: the journey of liberated love. The rainbow, referring to gay pride, is coupled with the Southern Cross on the plane, which establishes that Australia has made great progress in achieving equality and that this is something to be proud of.
